Ban the sale of Fur in Philadelphia
In recent years, many majot retailers have decided to drop fur from their sales racks. Saks Fifth Avenue, Gucci, Alice and Olivia, Oscar De La Renta are a handful of companies deciding to go fur-free. So why the sudden push?
Fur is cruel: over 100 million animals are raised, kept in tiny cages with no enrichment and electrocuted for making fur coats, trims and other items of clothing.
Fur is unecessary when there are so many cruelty free options. Its all about vanity.
Animals like mink, foxes and rabbits are commonly used. Dogs, cats, raccoons and chinchilas are also sometimes killed and skinned.
Fur farming is terrible for the environment: Waste products like feces, urine and blood from animals killed for fur pollutes our soil and water reservoirs. Fur tanneries release toxic chemicals in the air, water and soil.
Animals used for fur carry many diseases that can infect humans including COVID-19
Many European countries including Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Norway etc. have already banned the fur farming and the sale of fur.
Progressive cities in the US are also banning the sale of fur including: Ann Arbor, Berkely and Brookline (MA).
